The Diesel Power Source® HE400VG is a direct replacement VGT turbocharger for 2016-2025 Cummins ISX15 and X15 engines. This turbo replaces the factory Holset HE400VG with an upgraded design that uses forged machined compressor wheels (FMW), improved engineering to address known OEM weak points, and a brand-new electronic actuator (not remanufactured). Choose between the standard 67mm compressor (HE467VG) or the DPS-exclusive 70mm compressor (HE470VG) for applications above 500 HP.

Every DPS HE400VG turbo ships with no core charge, a new intake air temperature sensor, new gaskets, and installation hardware. ESN verification is required before shipment to confirm correct fitment for your engine configuration.

Compressor Size Options: 67mm vs 70mm

The 67mm compressor is the largest size available on the factory Holset HE400VG. The 70mm compressor is exclusive to Diesel Power Source® and is not available from OEM or other aftermarket suppliers. Both options use the same turbine wheel and share the same VGT housing and actuator.

Installing a new turbo with an old actuator (or a new actuator with a worn turbo) can cause VGT calibration errors, reduced performance, and premature component failure. Each DPS HE400VG turbo ships with a brand-new, pre-calibrated electronic actuator specifically matched to the turbo for proper VGT control from the first startup.

The Holset HE400VG is the factory variable geometry turbocharger used on Cummins X15 and ISX15 engines built between 2016 and 2025. Over time, these turbos wear due to heat cycling, electronic actuator failure, soot buildup in the VGT vanes, or bearing deterioration. When replacing a Cummins X15 turbo, it is important to choose a replacement that maintains full OEM VGT function while addressing the known durability issues in the factory design.

The Diesel Power Source® HE400VG is engineered as a direct bolt-on replacement with performance-minded upgrades including forged machined compressor wheels for improved airflow and durability, and a DPS-exclusive 70mm compressor option for builds exceeding 500 HP.

Cummins X15 Turbo and VGT Problems (Common Symptoms)

If you are experiencing any of the following, your factory HE400VG turbo or VGT actuator may be failing:

• Low boost or underboost under load, especially on grades
• Slow spool or laggy turbo response compared to normal operation
• Excessive black smoke during acceleration or under load
• VGT actuator fault codes or turbo position sensor errors
• Whining, scraping, or unusual noise from the turbo
• Repeated boost-related check engine light events
• Increased EGTs at the same load and speed compared to previous readings

Because VGT actuator failures can mimic turbo failure (and vice versa), this turbo includes a brand-new electronic actuator to reduce the risk of repeat repairs. If you are replacing due to actuator-related fault codes, replacing both the turbo and actuator together is the most reliable repair path.

Fitment

This turbo fits Cummins ISX15 and X15 engines on CM2250, CM2350, and CM2450 platforms (late 2016-2025). Also fits CM871 platform (2010-2016). Engine build date and ECM platform must be confirmed via ESN before shipment.

Compatible with Class 8 trucks including Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, International, and Western Star platforms equipped with ISX15 or X15 engines.

Not compatible with HE451VE applications. If your current turbo is an HE451VE, contact Diesel Power Source® before ordering. The HE451VE uses an elongated compressor cover and a dual-coolant-port actuator - neither is compatible with this turbo.

ESN verification is required. Do not order without first submitting your engine serial number. DPS will confirm the correct configuration for your truck before the order ships.
