The Diesel Power Source® HE451VE is a direct replacement VGT turbocharger for Cummins ISX15 engines on older platforms, including CM871 and early CM2250/CM2350 configurations. This turbo replaces the factory Holset HE451VE with an upgraded design that addresses known OEM weak points and ships with a (confirm before use: brand-new pre-calibrated electronic actuator?). Verify your ESN with DPS before ordering to confirm correct fitment for your engine configuration.

HE451VE vs HE400VG - Which Turbo Do You Need?
The ISX15 platform used two distinct factory VGT turbocharger families depending on engine build date and configuration. Ordering the wrong turbo is the most common fitment mistake on ISX15 applications. ESN verification eliminates this risk entirely.

Why Replace the Factory HE451VE
The factory Holset HE451VE is a variable geometry turbocharger that controls boost and exhaust braking through a ring of movable vanes driven by an electronic actuator. Over time, ISX15 turbos in this family develop predictable failure patterns: carbon buildup on the VGT vane assembly, actuator wear from sustained heat exposure, and oil coking from extended drain intervals or sealing issues. When the actuator fails, it mimics turbo failure - and vice versa. Replacing only one component often results in early repeat failure, which is why DPS recommends replacing the turbo and actuator together.

This turbo fits Cummins ISX15 engines on CM871 and early CM2250/CM2350 platforms. Engine build date and ECM platform must be confirmed via ESN before shipment.
Compatible with Class 8 trucks including Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, International, and Western Star platforms equipped with ISX15 engines on these older configurations.

Common ISX15 Turbo Failure Symptoms
If your ISX15 is showing any of these signs, the HE451VE turbo or VGT actuator may be failing:
- Low boost or underboost under load, especially on grades
- Slow spool or laggy turbo response vs. normal operation
- Excessive black smoke during acceleration or under load

- Whining, scraping, or unusual noise from the turbo
