Stage Selection Guide
| Stage | Turbo | Compressor | Turbine | Max HP | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 | S362/68/.70 | 62mm | 68mm / .70 A/R | 450 HP | Towing, daily driving, stock-to-moderate fueling |
| 2.5 | S362/68/.70 BB | 62mm | 68mm / .70 A/R | 420 HP | Same as 1.5 with faster spool (ball bearing) |
| 3 | S363/68/.70 | 63mm | 68mm / .70 A/R | 500 HP | Moderate builds, towing with increased fueling |
| 3.5 | S363/68/.70 BB | 63mm | 68mm / .70 A/R | 500 HP | Same as 3 with faster spool (ball bearing) |
| 4 | S363/73/.80 | 63mm | 73mm / .80 A/R | 530 HP | Higher HP builds, larger turbine for top-end flow |
| 4.5 | S363/73/.80 BB | 63mm | 73mm / .80 A/R | 530 HP | Same as 4 with faster spool (ball bearing) |
| 7 | S366/73/.80 | 66mm | 73mm / .80 A/R | 650 HP | Performance builds, higher fueling, competition |
| 7.5 | S366/73/.80 BB | 66mm | 73mm / .80 A/R | 650 HP | Same as 7 with faster spool (ball bearing) |
| 9 | S369/73/.80 | 69mm | 73mm / .80 A/R | 775 HP | High HP builds, sled pulling, drag racing |
| 9.5 | S369/73/.80 BB | 69mm | 73mm / .80 A/R | 775 HP | Same as 9 with faster spool (ball bearing) |
BB = Dual Ceramic Ball Bearing. Ball bearing stages spool 150–200 RPM faster than the journal bearing equivalent at the same compressor size. Ball bearing is recommended for towing applications where fast spool at low RPM is critical, and for compound turbo setups where the primary turbo needs to light as early as possible.
Which Stage Should I Choose?
Towing and daily driving (stock to 500 HP): Stages 1.5 through 3.5 offer the best balance of spool, drivability, and EGT control. The S362 (62mm) and S363 (63mm) compressors with the 68mm turbine wheel spool quickly and outflow the factory HE341/HE351CW significantly. These are the most popular choices for trucks that tow regularly.
Performance builds (500–650 HP): Stages 4 through 7.5 use a larger 73mm turbine wheel with .80 A/R housing for increased top-end airflow. The S363/73 is a popular choice for trucks with aggressive fueling that still need to be streetable. The S366 approaches double the airflow of a stock turbo with spool that is still very reasonable for a modified truck.
High HP and competition (650–775 HP): Stages 9 and 9.5 use the S369 (69mm) compressor for maximum single turbo airflow. These are primarily for sled pulling, drag racing, or trucks with significant fueling modifications. Spool is slower than the smaller stages but still very manageable on a built truck.

Turbonator® VGT Upgrade
Every DPS S300 turbo for the 5.9 Cummins can be upgraded with the Diesel Power Source® Turbonator® VGT exhaust housing. The Turbonator® is a patented variable geometry turbine housing that replaces the standard fixed-geometry exhaust housing on the turbo. It is not a modified Holset VGT — it is an entirely new design built on the S300 platform with aerospace-grade stator technology.
The Turbonator® VGT improves spool by 200–300 RPM, widens the turbo's efficient operating range, and is available in two configurations:
- VGT Without Exhaust Brake (+$950): 3-stage mechanical actuator. Improves spool, performance, and turbo output. Holds vane position better at every RPM.
- VGT With Exhaust Brake (+$1,850): Electronic actuator with exhaust brake function. Same spool and performance improvements plus exhaust braking capability. Self-contained electronics. Recommended for 2003 and newer trucks.

Start Single, Go Compound Later
Many DPS customers start with a single S300 turbo and later add a second turbo using the DPS Add-a-Turbo Kit or upgrade to the full Complete Compound Kit. The S300 turbo becomes the high-pressure turbo in the compound system. If you plan to go compound in the future, let DPS know when ordering so the wastegate can be configured with a spring gate to handle the higher boost pressures without damage.
2004.5–2007 Wastegate Fooler
Trucks built from mid-2004 through 2007 require a wastegate fooler to prevent check engine lights and derate conditions when running an aftermarket turbo. The wastegate fooler is available as an add-on at checkout. 2003–2004 trucks do not require this part.
Fitment
This S300 turbo fits 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 5.9L common rail Cummins engine. Direct replacement for factory HE341 and HE351CW turbochargers. T3 flange standard (fits factory manifold). T4 flange available with VGT upgrade.
Head studs are highly recommended for boost pressures over 55 PSI. Fire rings recommended over 65 PSI.

Yes. Every DPS S300 turbo for the 2003–2007 5.9 Cummins fits the factory T3 manifold location and connects to OEM oil lines and intercooler plumbing. No downpipe is required. 2004.5–2007 trucks will need a wastegate fooler (available as an add-on at checkout) to prevent check engine lights.
For towing and daily driving, Stages 1.5 through 3.5 (S362 or S363 with 68mm turbine) offer the best balance of fast spool, EGT control, and drivability. The S362 (62mm) is the closest to stock spool behavior with significantly more airflow. The S363 (63mm) adds more headroom for trucks with increased fueling. Ball bearing versions (Stages 2.5 and 3.5) spool 150–200 RPM faster.
Ball bearing stages use dual ceramic ball bearings that spool 150–200 RPM faster than the journal bearing equivalent at the same compressor size. Ball bearing is recommended for towing applications where fast spool at low RPM matters most, and for compound setups where the primary turbo needs to light as early as possible. Journal bearing stages are more cost-effective and still perform excellently for most builds.

Well built
Haven't gotten it all tuned yet, but the install went well. This is a nicely built, well thought out replacement. So far, I am happy, and even without a proper tune, the torque and power increased nicely. The machining is top notch. Very happy so far.

Five Nine Cummins
I bought a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500, but didn't really look into all of the aftermarket parts. It ended up having a DPS Turbonator Turbo, DPS Extreme manifold, DPS Arctic Cooler, S&B intake, 5 inch exhaust, DPF delete and a Smarty Touch S2G. The programmer doesn't work right, but Smarty is sending the stuff out to fix it..The truck is a beast and will be even more so, whenever I get the programmer up and going again. I turned my boost up this morning; just did 2 rotations, and man did it really wake it up..It sounds freaking great.
