What is the Turbonator®?:
The Turbonator® is a high-performance Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) designed by Diesel Power Source. It is based on the S300 and S400 turbo platforms and features aerospace-grade stator technology, making it exceptionally robust and durable. Let’s delve into its key features:
- Stator Technology: The patented and patent-pending stator housing can be independently clocked to fit various applications. These ultra-efficient stators significantly improve spool-up time by up to 400 RPMs, reduce Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs), and enhance fuel mileage.
- Efficiency: When compared to sliding-style VGTs like the He351VE, the Turbonator®’s turbine housing demonstrates superior efficiency in converting exhaust energy into turbine power. Its overall flow characteristics are also excellent.
- Performance Range: On the low end, the Turbonator® spools up rapidly, akin to a small turbo. At the top end, the open stators allow maximum airflow, performing like a much larger turbo. Whether you’re moving heavy loads or tackling uphill grades, the Turbonator® maintains EGTs while providing improved low-end torque.
- Smoke Reduction: By burning more fuel in the cylinder, the Turbonator® minimizes low-end smoke, resulting in increased power and better fuel efficiency.
- Pneumatic or Electronic Option: The Turbonator® is available in both pneumatic and electronic variants. Unlike modified stock VGT turbos, such as the Fleece Cheetah VGT or BD Screamer VGT, the Turbonator® is an entirely new design tailored specifically for performance applications. It has even received multiple patents due to its uniqueness.
- Airflow and Exhaust: Based on the S300 and S400 platforms, the Turbonator® flows significantly more air and exhaust. This helps maintain lower drive pressures and allows for a greater than 1:1 exhaust drive to boost pressure ratio—an achievement that’s virtually impossible with other turbos.
** Turbos will spool differently in every truck. Injector size, timing, cam shaft, and other mods all affect the spool-up, the above table is the typical spool-up RPM's.
The S300 turbo for 5.9 cummins & 6.7 Cummins is also an excellent choice for the primary charger in a twin (compound) turbo application.
